In the past 7 years I have learned that cooking is fun, at times stressful, necessary and if I want it to be... joyful! I have opened up to new ways of cooking. For example I know how to cook with splashes of oil to enhance food's flavor instead of shy away from the stuff like it is the bubonic plague! I have learned the difference in always using high heat on the burners to the using low and medium heat to blend and enlarge the flavors of dishes. To most this may not be that big a deal, but for a person such as myself who has little to NO patience, it is huge.
A look back.
When Chad and I started dating we would cook at each other's homes for meals instead of always going out to eat. This set the stage for what we would consider important, frugal and well... easier for our lives together. We both had hand-me-down pots and pans so with our wedding money we splurged on middle of the road pots and pans to "spice it up" in the kitchen. What we did not realize is the set we had was not suitable for my impatient way of cooking, harsh washing styles and well... a bazillion moves.
Now a look at the present.
Our family eats almost EVERY meal at home. We try and only go out once a month. Not just for the money but also for our health. Unfortunately my "fun and joy" of cooking was fading. My pots and pans were not big enough or even functioning in a manner for the meals to be spectacular. As a SAHM/W this is where I can shine... my meals. After watching me cook and trying to cook himself, Chad sensed my frustration.
The wonderful, attentive and selfless husband he is, he researched what we needed. Bought me a "test" 12 inch skillet to see if I like the style and then waited for coupons, sales and bonuses.
Last weekend my joy returned! We got a new set of my "dream" pots and pans for 50% off, then an additional 20% off using a coupons, a bonus dutch oven and a $50 give card. Can you say happy cook!
My joy of cooking is back. Yes, there is a learning curve to using stainless steel when I have had non-stick (well... not so much non stick anymore) for 7 years, but it is fun!!!
Time to start cooking another meal, using my new found "toys."
Thank you, Chad!
