It is that time of year! Family, food, fun and TRAVEL!Thanksgiving was spent in Kansas with Chad's side of the family.
The drive there was LESS than uneventful. The entire trip was on back highways of Missouri and Kansas. No interstates what so ever. Then all of a sudden I find myself on a back highway driving along and the sky gets creepy looking. I notice Chad is "gazing" out the window and so I keep driving. Then the sky gets even darker, thicker and down right FREAKY! I break the silence with my observation and Chad mentions there are clouds off to my right that are starting to SWIRL and starting to form the beginnings of a funnel. REALLY? He promptly informs me of what I need to do in case there is a need to park and get the kiddos in a ditch. He is so calm, cool and collected talking about a TORNADO WARNING and possible funnel clouds as I drive like an old granny glued to my steering wheel. After about 10 minutes I had ENOUGH! We pulled over and Chad took the "reigns." Of course at that point the clouds started to dissipate. Never fails.
Grandma had the house warm and cozy with the lights on and a big welcome hug and a bed to crash.
Thanksgiving morning was busy, crazy, full and FUN! His aunts and families joined the "party" and we cooked, prepared and jibber jabbered all afternoon and evening. That night the girls had a sleep over at the farm, Chad and I got to hang out with adults and jibber jabber some more and enjoy the quiet.
The rest of the weekend was full of LOTS of time with Grandma and Shannon (our 14 year old cousin) and time at the farm and a yummy rib dinner provided by our very own aunt who has her own smoke trailer business. YUMMO! The girls explored the old farm equipment and Chad got to talk "shop" with his uncle.Sunday was another travel day. At least there were no tornado warnings or funnel clouds. HOWEVER, there was a Kansas Highway Patrol who wanted to check out my license and insurance. But, I think the kids arguing in the back seat and asking us where we were headed he took pity on me. PHEW!
What a great weekend of family, food, fun and travel.
