"Perfect"

The last few days I seem to have been bombarded with images, slogans and conversations that are all bounced around the ideal for a perfect family. According to what I have heard and seen a "perfect" family is one that has at least one boy and one girl, a mom who drives the newest and best of vehicles, a mom who is skinny and stays at home while daddy is away making the money and magically home for dinner at night (every night), no worries, no pain, no stress. Really? Why must this be forced down our throats. I have friends who are single parents, friends who struggle to even conceive a child, I have ONLY girls and I know more people than not that do not fit this "perfection" society is shoving down our throats! A "perfect" family is what God gives you.

*Note: I am not criticizing those who fit this mold, because to those people it is their perfect. However, those I know who fit it do not SHOVE it down my throat.

My family may not fit the mold that is set out for us, but since when do I try to fit any mold set out for me? So why the rant? The last few days have felt like a slap in the face. Media, society (or whatever you want to call "them") is showing me what I SHOULD have, but in reality I love what I have and to me, it is PERFECT! This coming year I am truly taking a look at what is important. To me my family is everything. We may not have the nuclear family "they" say we should, but our family has opportunities that some could only dream of. I refuse to let "them" make me get on my own personal soap box about being miserable with the "perfection" God has blessed us with and embrace all that we have. Healthy, joy, adventure and most of all... LOVE.

This is my PERFECT gift from God!

I agree- you are a perfectly beautiful family! Family is messy and inconsistent, and doesn't fit in a box... Thank goodness!
