Another day, another drive, another trip to Columbia. This time it was for Miss Hannah.
We are gearing up to have Hannah's tonsils and adenoids taken out this summer and we needed to have her blood levels checked by a Hematologist and also needed to see a Pediatric Cardiologist because her doctor had detected a slight heart murmur at an earlier check-up.
The Cardiology appointment went very well. The Cardiologist did detect a heart murmur so she was hooked up to an EKG and had a very detailed (45 minute) ultrasound of all parts of her heart. It was quite fascinating to watch. They went all over her tummy, chest and even up on her neck. She just watched cartoons on the TV they had in the room and chilled out being very still and patient for the technician.
All in all, the ultrasound and EKG showed that the murmur is what they call an "innocent heart murmur" and we have no need to address it in the future. Her heart, arteries and all the parts are formed and working properly. Her heart just likes to make an innocent little noise once in a while. It is not harmful and will go away with time. Just another reason to show why she is so special.
As for the Hematology appointment, we will have the blood work back in two week and be able to schedule her surgery at FLW or get a referral to the University of Columbia to have it done "depending."
Never thought I would be at so many "specialty" doctor appointments. They needed to have given me a handbook on being a parent when I became one! (especially a military mommy!)
