A Crisp Morning

Life in "Small Town America" is so much fun!!! It was Saturday morning and I found myself hopping out of bed wanting to get the coffee made and dressed to get out the door. WHY? I had heard rumors about how great the Farmer's Market in town was, but you had to get there early or the "goods" would be gone.

The girls and I were out of the house by 0745, swung by the ATM for some needed cash and zipped over to the park. It was not huge (like the ones from my college days) but it was just right.

I got us an up-close parking spot. The air was crisp, the ground was covered in dew, I could almost smell Fall in the air. The fragrance of the produce over took my senses and took me back to our house in Salem where we would have late summer and early fall veggies in the garden. I was in bliss. There was fresh (farm and garden fresh) fruits and veggies. Everyone was smiling, chit chatting and gathering the best picks.

For a few moments I stood back, watched where people went first (to get the inside scoop without asking) and then made one pass by each vendor, then went in for my purchases. My first stop, the Amish couple. They had the "ugliest" but the freshest, smelliest (in a good way), best priced squash, cucumbers and peaches.

*Just a side note. I felt a little, um, exposed! I had on capris, tank top that was lower cut, and my HARLEY DAVIDSON hoodie (sinner!), and my baseball cap. Um, yeah. The husband never looked at me. Sorry. :o( But the wife was wonderful and complimented me on my BEAUTIFUL children (yes I know!) and how blessed I was to have such well behaved children (if only she had been in my truck while getting to the market). Oh, and I was curious as to where the horse and buggy were... they have a "regular dude" drive his truck and trailer, they are the passengers and it is "acceptable" if it is to sell their produce. I am SOOOOO nosy, but she was so sweet.*

I have some yummy fresh produce for me and the girls. Next Saturday I will be back. Make that each Saturday until the second week in October. Happy dance.
